Hey! It’s me, your wedding photographer! Ever wondered how wedding photographers think? Well, I can’t speak for everyone else, but I can speak for myself! So here we go!

     Please choose to have your details captured!

     We love details! Really! They give us a chance to get our creative juices flowing, they give us a feel for the style of your day, and they add so much to your gallery. I have another blog post here if you want to read more!  

     Don’t stress the details.

     I know I just told you to worry about your details. But now I’m talking about the little details of the day. Definitely plan and plan well! But delegate what you can, especially on your actual day so that when your wedding day comes, you can relax and take time to soak it all in!

     We love portraits!

     I think I can speak for most wedding photographers when I say that we love portrait time!!! It’s when we get to be the most creative, except maybe for details, and it gives you lots of portraits from one of the best days of your life! Bridal party portraits are also a lot of fun! It gives us a chance to get to know your friends a bit and you get fun photos with them. 

     Trust us with light.

     At risk of sounding braggy, we’ve done this before. We know what kind of light looks good and we try to find the good light. “Good light” can be a very vague term tho, so what do I mean by that? Well, for one, light that is even. So we look for light where there wont be splotches of light hitting the front of you. We look for light that wont give your skin a greenish hue. And there are more unflattering types of light that we try to avoid. Sometimes it might not make sense why we choose a location, but we look for the light first. If you have a certain location that you want to use, by all means tell us and we can try to make it work! However, just be aware that sometimes it might not have flattering light. Your photographer should be able to tell you if it will work or not. And if you have a question about why a location wont work, please ask!! Sometimes we photographers forget that the whole world doesn’t speak “photo talk” and we don’t explain things the way that we should! We won’t intentionally put you in light that will be unflattering or give you dark circles under your eyes tho!

     Walk slowly!

     This applies to lots of parts of your day. In portrait time, if you’re walking, please slow down! The reason why? Sometimes it can take our cameras a bit to focus, so walking slower than normal gives it more chances. Also sometimes we’re walking backwards and this gives us more time as well. So how slow? Well you should feel a little strange when you do this, almost like you’re walking in slow motion. And it feels strange for every one, so if you feel a little strange, you are perfectly normal! Another time to walk slowly is walking into and out of your ceremony. Here you don’t have to slow motion walk, but a little slower than normal is great! During portraits, we might have you redo a walking shot to make sure we got what we needed, but we cant make you walk into your ceremony again! This also applies to entering the reception.

     Have fun!

     We really want you to have fun! After all, this is your wedding day and you should enjoy it! We do our best to make sure you have fun during portrait time. But try to not worry, and trust the people you’ve put in charge! At the end of the day you’ll be married (of course!), but besides that, what you have left will be the memories, the photos, and maybe a few other things!

     So you take care of the memories part! And I would love to take care of the photos part!!
